Hulu Expects to Hit $1 Billion in Revenue for First Time

97952b1d38fa00d11387385743
Hulu is projected to hit the $1 billion revenue mark in 2013, a first for the company, CEO Mike Hopkins wrote in a blog post on Wednesday.
The company relies on a mix of advertising and subscribers for its income, both of which have continued to climb, according to Hulu. The company broke through 5 million paid subscriptions earlier in 2013 and now counts more than 1,000 advertisers on its site.

To put these numbers in perspective, Netflix revenue for the third quarter alone came in at $1.1 billion, although its streaming service does not offer any free content or show ads. While smaller than Netflix, Hulu's revenue is growing at a fast pace: The company's revenue in 2012 was $695 million, meaning revenue increased by 44% year-over-year.
The company did not disclose any costs, meaning it's not possible to determine how much — if any — profit the company has turned.

YouTube Comes to Roku as Google Bets on Content

YoutubeOne small step for man, one giant leap for cat videos — Roku now has a dedicated YouTube channel.
YouTube and Roku both announced the moved today in respective blog posts (Roku) (YouTube). In addition to being able to access YouTube videos in HD, the new service will also include a "Send to TV" option that gives users the option to navigate with their smartphone. For now, only the Roku 3 will have the YouTube app.
Representatives of both Roku and Google, which owns YouTube, declined to comment on the deal beyond the blog posts.
The deal represents a major coup for Roku, which lost its unofficial YouTube channel in 2010. Since then, Google struggled with its "Google TV" products and went in a different direction with Chromecast, which streams online content directly to a television.
Google's decision to bring YouTube back to Roku highlights an acceptance that in order to become a major content provider, Google will have to partner with companies that compete in other areas, such as streaming devices, says Rob Frieden, a professor of telecommunications and law at Penn State University.
"It's better to get that content out there and take advantage of new possibilities for ratings," he says. "Google is going to win, and if they have to cut in Roku and the black box having failed with Google Television that's fine. They're willing to make that trade off."
He adds that content providers have slowly warmed to the idea of allowing their content to be sent over multiple screens despite the lack of control.
"The more deals like this, the more comfortable content creators are going to be about multiple screen access," he says.

North Korea News Site Purges 95% of Digital Archive

Kim-jong-un
Judging by the Korean Central News Agency's website, almost no news occurred prior to Oct. 1, 2013.
The North Korean state-run news organization has deleted 95% of its digital archive, including all but seven of its articles that predate Oct. 1. The purge comes just days after KCNA announced the execution of Jang Song Thaek, Kim Jong Un's uncle, believed to be the second-most powerful man in the country.

More than 35,000 articles from September and earlier have suddenly gone missing, according to NK News, a privately-owned site based in Washington, D.C.
A screenshot of the site capture by the Internet Archive shows more than 20,000 articles listed in March — 2,006 pages with 10 article listings per page. Only 1,884 articles remained on Monday morning.

KCNA
The purge is by no means the first Orwellian move by KCNA. The organization edited and deleted hundreds of articles referencing Jang around the time of his execution, NK News reported on Friday.
In attempt to justify Jang's execution, KCNA published an article, which has since been deleted, referring to the leader as "despicable human scum" and "worse than a dog." Despite North Korean government's vitriol towards Jang, the ill will apparently didn't extend to Kim Kyong-hui, Jang's wife (Kim Jong Un's aunt). She appeared on a KCNA list of leaders this weekend, the New York Times reported.
The news purge appears to extend beyond the digital sphere. Frank Feinstein, who runs the website KNCA Watch, told NK News that North Korea's state-run newspaper Rodong Sinmun also deleted about 20,000 articles from its archive.
“This is a a calculated thing they’ve done," Feinstein said. "Across all sites, it means the order most likely came from above each individual agency."

Report: Yahoo Paying Katie Couric $6 Million per Year

Katie-couric
Yahoo will pay Katie Couric $6 million per year to be its "global anchor," a far cry from the $15 million she was earning as an anchor on The CBS Evening News, according to a report.
TMZ cites unnamed sources who quoted the $6 million figure. Couric has a $20 million-a-year deal with ABC, but "not all of that went to Katie personally," according to the report.

A rep for Couric could not be reached for comment.
Yahoo announced last month that Couric would "cover the world's most interesting stories and newsmakers" starting in early 2014. Such a deal was in the works since August, according to reports. Couric has also worked with Yahoo on a limited basis on a feature called Katie's Take for Yahoo News, which includes interviews with celebrities.
Couric's hiring came after New York Times tech columnist David Pogue also announced his move to Yahoo. Pogue's salary has been estimated in the $500,000 to $1 million range.

Embrace the Binge: Netflix Data Shows Viewers Usually Watch More Than One [embargo til 6am]netflix

Netflix knows when you’ve been bad or good, or watching Homeland for 12 hours straight.
More than 60% of television streamers binge watch, according to a study by the streaming content provider. Cultural anthropologist Grant McCracken was brought in to help analyze the data.
Netflix defines binge watching as watching more than two episodes in a single setting. However those half-day binges are not the norm - the average binge-watch came in at 2.3 episodes per sitting.
Of course, the behavior has not been discouraged by Netflix with the all-at-once releases of its original series House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, and the new season of Arrested Development.
Viewers polled indicated a positive view of binging, with 76% saying the opportunity to watch several episodes in a row provided a refuge from their busy lives; 73% viewed binge watching as a positive thing.

Warner Bros. iPad App Streams 500 Classic Films

Bogart

Warner Bros. has brought its Netflix-style streaming movie app to the iPad, giving users access to its 80-year archive of classic movies.
Lovers of Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall can now stream the Warner Archive Instant collection of more than 500 movies and television programming on iPads running iOS 6 and 7 as well as Roku. The service, which costs $9.99 per month and provides a free two-week trial, also includes closed captioning, a feature the company says was highly requested.

The 25 Best Free iPad Apps
The movies in the collection tend to be esoteric — titles including Harper starring Paul Newman and The Long, Long Trailer featuring Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz of I Love Lucy fame — a niche that Warner Brothers says appeals to a dedicated audience that seek out this type of content.
"Warner Archive Instant appeals to a whole new group of fans who are united by their passion for rare and hard-to-find movies and TV shows. It’s a category of consumers that transcends traditional demographic segmentation, crossing age, gender and more," says George Feltenstein, senior vice president of theatrical catalog marketing at Warner Bros. Digital Distribution.

YouTube Ad Revenue Expected to Top $5 Billion This Year

YouTube Ad Revenue Expected to Top $5 Billion This YearYoutube2

YouTube's business may growing even faster than previously thought.
The video streaming service is projected to generate $5.6 billion in global ad revenues this year, according to analysis from eMarketer, based on an analysis of data from other researchers, investment banks and company reports. That's up from a projected $3.7 billion in global ad revenue in 2012.

YouTube's 10 Most-Viewed Ads of 2013
The majority of that ad revenue is paid back to content creators and ad partners, but according to the report, YouTube is expected to net just under $2 billion in ad revenue for 2013. Google, which acquired YouTube in 2006, does not break out data on the streaming video site's ad revenue.
Screen Shot 2013-12-11 at 9.38.57 AM
Other analysts had previously predicted that YouTube would generate around $4 billion in gross ad revenue for 2013. eMarketer chalks up YouTube's greater-than-expected growth to changing viewer habits and Google's efforts to work with advertisers.
"eMarketer believes much of YouTube's growth has come from growing consumer demand to view video content across devices," the researcher writes in the report, "combined with Google's continuing efforts to accommodate advertisers' desire to reach the multiscreen audience through features such as Paid Channels and TrueView."

Edward Snowden Is Runner-Up for TIME's Person of the Year

Edward Snowden Is Runner-Up for TIME's Person of the YearEdward-snowden1

Edward Snowden came in second place for TIME's Person of the Year, losing the top spot to Pope Francis, editors announced Wednesday morning.
The first revelations of the far-reaching NSA surveillance programs surfaced in a Guardian feature in June. We learned that Verizon had given the U.S. government all its customers' phone records for years. The Guardian's Glenn Greenwald also revealed that tech companies we trust with our most intimate secrets had been part of a surveillance program called PRISM.
When we started to digest the news, one question came to our minds: Who's leaking these incendiary documents to the press?
At first, we thought this would be our generation's Deep Throat
At first, we thought this would be our generation's Deep Throat, and the source would remain hidden for decades. We were wrong. Snowden stepped forward as the source, just four days after the publication of the first leaks.
"I know the government will demonize me," Snowden said. "I understand that I will be made to suffer for my actions [...] but I will be satisfied if the federation of secret law, unequal pardon and irresistible executive powers that rule the world that I love are revealed even for an instant."
And that was just the beginning. Six months and hundreds of top-secret documents later, new details continue to emerge as new stories are published in media outlets around the world almost weekly.
Never before had the NSA been subject to so much media coverage. After all, this is a top-secret operation that was once defined as the "No Such Agency." But now insiders call it "Not Secret Anymore," according to James Bamford, author of several books about the agency.
Without Snowden, the NSA — and let's not forget its sister surveillance agency, the British GCHQ — wouldn't be under such scrutiny from the public, legislators and world leaders. Even other notable whistleblowers have praised Snowden and underlined his historical importance.
"In my estimation, there has not been in American history a more important leak than Edward Snowden’s release of NSA material," wrote Daniel Ellsberg, who leaked the Pentagon Papers in 1971, exposing the lies of the U.S. government regarding the Vietnam War. "Snowden’s whistleblowing gives us the possibility to roll back a key part of what has amounted to an 'executive coup' against the U.S. constitution."
Courageous whistleblower or a dastardly traitor, Snowden deserved to be at the top of the list for TIME's Person of the Year. His decision to steal documents while working as an NSA contractor for Booz Allen Hamilton was the story of the year, and it will have lasting effects, regardless of legislative reform or lack thereof.
These surveillance programs, far-reaching has they are, deserved to be discussed, dissected and evaluated by citizens and their representatives. Snowden made that possible.

Has Chipotle Mastered the Branded Video?

Has Chipotle Mastered the Branded Video?Chipotle

In 2010, Chipotle ran an ad campaign about Chipotle ad campaigns. The premise was that Chipotle's ad agency was telling the company to put its complaints about factory farming on the back burner and instead focus on its big burritos.
Like much of Chipotle's marketing, the campaign allowed the brand to have it both ways: The company would be seen as a rebel, while shoehorning in a conventional product pitch for those big burritos. A year later, with approximately $800 million in revenue, Chipotle dropped the product pitch altogether with "Back to the Start," a video that featured a farmer who rejects the increasingly industrialized nature of his profession.
At the time of this writing, "Back to the Start" has logged more than 8 million views — quite a feat for what is essentially a treatise on modern agriculture. While the subject matter doubtlessly resounded for many, the unique execution was also part of the video's draw. The ad, created by CAA Marketing, combined an inspired pairing of artist and song (Willie Nelson and Coldplay's "The Scientist," respectively) with stylized CGI that rendered humans and pigs as spherical objects with skinny, dangling limbs.

9 Essential Twitter Sources for Ukrainian Conflict News

9 Essential Twitter Sources for Ukrainian Conflict NewsUkraineprotests

Events in the Ukrainian capital of Kiev have moved rapidly over the past week or so. Not surprisingly, Twitter and other social channels have often been the most up-to-date sources of information on the unfolding conflict.
In a nutshell, the tension there revolves around President Viktor Yanukovych's abrupt decision to reject a broad free-trade agreement with the European Union, which much of the Ukrainian public seems to favor, and instead focus his economic attention toward Moscow. Many of the protesters are demanding the removal of Yanokovych and the reinstatement of the EU trade pact.

12 Social Media Accounts That Turned Into Books

12 Social Media Accounts That Turned Into Books

Shit-my-dad-says

1. Justin Halpern, Shit My Dad Says

Justin Halpern's Shit My Dad Says is sometimes credited with opening the floodgates to a crushing wave of "social media personalities" who felt that they, too, deserved to make it big. Some did. Most didn't.
But Halpern's genuinely funny feed, created in 2009 when he was forced to move back in with his hilarious, profanity-spewing father, spawned a book deal mere weeks after he registered the account, as well as a short-lived sitcom starring William Shatner.
Halpern has since written for Grantland and published a second book, I Suck At Girls, which also contains quotes from his dad.Garfield

2. Dan Walsh, Garfield Minus Garfield

Though arguably a little too old to be called a "viral sensation," Garfield Minus Garfield is a brilliant webcomic from Irish technology manager Dan Walsh. By erasing Garfield -- and his clever quips -- from Jim Davis's funnies, Walsh revealed that Jon Arbuckle's misery bordered on total existential ennui without his lasagna-loving feline companion. Jim Davis was a fan of the series, telling the The New York Times, "The more you read of these strips, the funnier it gets."Hyperbole-2

3. Allie Brosh, Hyperbole and a Half

Even if you haven't visited Allie Brosh's blog, Hyperbole and a Half, you've almost definitely seen its bug-eyed protagonist in memes -- "CLEAN ALL THE THINGS!" or through reblogs. Brosh is perhaps best known for an arresting post titled "Adventures in Depression," which spawned an equally moving sequel in May. Her deliberately crude and child-like cartoons have delighted the web since 2009, and earlier this year she translated her signature cynicism and wavy lines into a book deal. Like the webcomic, the graphic memoir intersperses scenes from her childhood with sometimes-dark personal musings and geek-culture gems. T-rex-trying

4. Hugh Murphy, T-rex Trying

With his stubby little arms, cartoonist Hugh Murphy's T-rex struggles with the daily activities we homo sapiens take for granted. T-rex Trying is a collection of minimalist illustrations of the unlucky bipedal carnivore trying (and failing) to climb a tree, eat a lollipop and send text messages, among other things. The book was released in February, but the tyrannosaurus probably can't pick it up. Poor little guy.Dear-girls

5. Charlie McDowell, Dear Girls Above Me

Comedy writer Charlie McDowell is a pretty lucky guy, all things considered. For starters, he's the son of actors Malcolm McDowell and Mary Steenburgen. Then there's the whole book deal thing.
In 2009, after a difficult breakup, McDowell began to hear his vapid new neighbors speaking through the ceiling. As the girls upstairs dated their way through Los Angeles and botched breaking news about "the kids who got trapped in Chile" ("Miners, not minors," McDowell noted), he began to document their exploits on Twitter. Fans of McDowell's 140-character open letters include Mindy Kaling, Jon Heder and Lena Dunham, so hopefully he publishes a sequel called Thanks, Girls Above Me.Feminist-rg

6. Danielle Henderson, Feminist Ryan Gosling

Danielle Henderson already had one book under her belt when she set the Internet on fire with Feminist Ryan Gosling. As a graduate student in gender studies, Henderson turned to Tumblr to vent her academic frustrations, transforming the popular Ryan Gosling "Hey Girl" memes into flashcards for feminist theory. The writing ranges in complexity from the conversational -- "Hey girl, if I had a hammer, I'd smash the patriarchy" -- to the nearly incomprehensible (to non-gender studies students): "Hey girl. Are you saying the standpoint theory could help solidify my argument about the Doctor Who/female companion relationship dynamic as fundamentally problematic with keen feminist undertones?"
The book was published in 2012, and Henderson has since showcased her prosy wit as a recapper for Vulture and an editor at Rookie magazine. Sadly, now that Henderson is working on her PhD, we won't be hearing much more from the Canadian heartthrob. But we'll always have Fuck Yeah Ryan Gosling!Fuck

7. Emma Koenig, F*ck! I'm In My Twenties

As a young, broke twentysomething adrift in New York City, Emma Koenig -- sister of Vampire Weekend's Ezra Koenig -- began posting black-and-white doodles to Tumblr that perfectly encapsulated the exaggerated emotions and perpetual anxiety felt by every millenial awash in existential crises.
Fuck! I'm In My Twenties was a runaway success, leading to a book deal, a sitcom pilot, and a New York Times profile that called the blog "a sweetly dark look at a life stage, something resembling the HBO series Girls, but defanged a bit." Koenig continues to update Fuck! I'm In My Twenties from her new home in Los Angeles, proving that your twenties kind of suck no matter how Internet-famous you become.Adulting

8. Kelly Williams Brown, Adulting

Being an adult isn't much better than being in your twenties, evidently. Fortunately, reporter Kelly Williams Brown demystifies the transition in a series of simple steps on her blog.
Some are gentle affirmations -- "Do not get discouraged. Let your discontent fuel you" -- while others get snarky -- "Never, under any circumstances, begin playing Cookie Clicker." All of them constitute pretty solid advice. So it's no surprise that the book, which was published this spring, was recently optioned by J. J. Abrams to become a sitcom.But-you-like-really-dated

9. Ryan Casey, But You Like Really Dated?

Brooklyn-based author and illustrator Ryan Casey struck gold when he merged his artistic inclinations with a healthy Hollywood obsession and added just a dash of Mean Girls snark. But You're Like Really Pretty offers flawless graphic sendups of everyone from Justin Timberlake to Lorde, with lots of Miley Cyrus in between.
Casey's book, But You Like Really Dated?, pays special attention to the most prurient moments in celebrity culture, cataloguing "Hollyweird's sexual superheroes" as well as the cheaters, womanizers and "sex tape superstars."
Suris-burn-book

10. Allie Hagan, Suri's Burn Book

Proof that Mean Girls-inspired celebrity blogging is entertaining in many, many forms, Suri's Burn Book offers scathing critiques of celebrity offspring's fashion choices in the guise of the ultimate stylish preschooler, Suri Cruise.
And Suri doesn't just have it in for little ones like Penelope Disick or Apple and Moses Martin -- she'll gladly go after celeb spawn several years her senior, like Willow and Jaden Smith and Shiloh Jolie-Pitt.
Allie Hagan, the voice behind Suri's snotty remarks, is a decidedly good-natured policy consultant living in Washington, D.C.; the Burn Book became available in hardcover in the fall of 2012.Dear-photograph

11. Taylor Jones, Dear Photograph

Canadian-born Taylor Jones launched the beautifully nostalgic Dear Photograph in 2011, inviting users to hold up a photograph from the past in the place where it was originally taken and then take a second photograph of that. Those images, which were accompanied by a short dedication beginning "Dear Photograph," were posted to the blog. Thousands of people sent in submissions to supplement Jones's own photographs, and the resulting photo series touchingly illustrates the emotional significance of such mementos. Jones selected 200-plus images for the Dear Photograph book, which was published in May 2012, and he continues to update the blog with new photographs.Shit-rough-drafts

12. Paul Laudiero, Shit Rough Drafts

Comedy writer and Upright Citizens Brigade performer Paul Laudiero created the hilarious Tumblr Shit Rough Drafts, which is devoted to the faux first drafts of such literary and cinematic blockbusters as The Hunger Games, Harry Potter and The Avengers, in February of this year. (Did you know that Frodo uses the One Ring to propose to Sam in the original version of Lord of the Rings: Return of the King? Neither did we.) His first post was a brainstorm of possible titles for The Great Gatsby: Of many strange choices, The Gatsby Gatsby seems to be the winner.
Shit Rough Drafts won Chronicle Books's Great Tumblr Book Search and will be available for purchase in April 2014.

The quickest way to get a book deal might be through social media.
With the help of Twitter and Tumblr, aspiring literary and artistic impresarios now have the world at their keyboards and a digital audience waiting to discover their talents. It's no surprise that in the past few years, publishers have taken note.
25 Literary GIFs for Book Lovers
Earlier this year, Tumblr founder David Karp said that at least 70 users had turned their blogs into book deals, and San Francisco publisher Chronicle Books instituted "The Great Tumblr Book Search" to scour the platform for the very best in creative fare.
Here are a few of our favorite social media success stories. Funny and wise, touching and sassy, these books are well worth a read, or at least a click-through.

Reddit's Biggest Moments of 2013

Reddit's Biggest Moments of 2013Reddit-2013

It's been quite a year for the front page of the Internet.
Big or small, Reddit experienced a lot of change within the past twelve months. Now serving 6% of online adults and, according to internal reports, averaging 5.1 billion monthly page views, Reddit seems to keep grabbing the world's attention, making the transition from a fringe network for the "Internet savvy" to a booming web metropolis.
Through high-profile AMAs to unfavorable media reports following the Boston Bombing witch hunt, Reddit has seen its fair share of peaks and valleys this calendar year. Here, we take a look back at the site's highest highs and lowest lows.
In 2013, Reddit hosted AMAs with astronauts and billionaires, divided the community in teams of Orangered and Periwinkle, and tried its very best to open a safe. Check out our year in review below.

Noteworthy AMAs

  • Bill Gates
  • In his extremely transparent and informative AMA, the chairman of Microsoft responded to user questions about Bing vs. Google, his relationship with Steve Jobs and his personal thoughts about world issues such as poverty and disease prevention. Another highlight came when a user asked the billionaire if he had anything left on his bucket list. Gates responded, "Don't die..."
  • Chris Hadfield
  • From aboard the International Space Station, Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield answered questions about space policy, the industry and anything else that piqued his interest. Hadfield also made a mark when he posted his Space Oddity cover on the site in May.
  • /u/Unidan
  • Reddit's resident biologist, Unidan (known outside the Internet as Ben Eisenkop, a graduate teaching assistant at a New York State university), holds a demigod level status on the site, thrilling users with amazing ecology facts. His AMA lived up to expectations, eliciting nearly 14,000 upvotes and containing a plethora of fascinating science facts.
  • Snoop Lion
  • When Snoop Lion came back for his second AMA in July, he answered Reddit's hard-hitting questions with even harder-hitting responses. Hilariously, the musician and devoted redditor began answering several of his own questions, asking himself what kind of soup he would be and responding with "alphabet soup."

    Noteworthy Posts

  • The Safe:
When user dont_stop_me_smee first posted about finding a safe on a friend's rented property, he likely didn't expect to incite such a level of manic interest in the Reddit community. After creating the subreddit /r/WhatsInThisThing and promising to keep users updated on his progress in cracking the safe, he all but disappeared. Reddit swiftly turned on him, accusing him of lying and "karma whoring." The safe has since become a recurring inside joke across the site.
  • Samuel L. Jackson's Monologue
  • In May, Samuel L. Jackson went to Reddit with a promise to read the most upvoted comment on his post in monologue form. Luckily for us, he delivered — twice. One of the winning entries had Jackson confessing that he was quitting acting in order to pursue his true calling: a life of vigilantism.
  • Racists and Skinheads Share What Changed Their Minds
  • Some incredibly powerful and honest comments fill this /r/AskReddit thread. Receiving over 10,000 upvotes, the top comments are stories of how formerly bigoted Redditors' perspectives changed over time.

    Noteworthy Site Updates

  • Removal of /r/Atheism and /r/Politics as Default Subreddits
  • Reddit announced the removal of two of its most subscribed-to subreddits, /r/Atheism and /r/Politics, in their official blog this July. In the post, Reddit's community manager Alex Angel stated that the two controversial subreddits "just haven't continued to grow and evolve like the other subreddits we've decided to add." The five subreddits added to the default list were /r/books, /r/earthporn, /r/explainlikeimfive, /r/gifs and /r/television.
  • April Fools' 2013: Periwinkle vs. Orangered
  • Image: RedditIn an April Fools blog post, Reddit announced it had purchased the popular online multiplayer game Team Fortress 2. Users site wide were divided into two teams, Orangered or Periwinkle — for the colors of the upvote and downvote arrows — and given several "inventory items." The event was mostly confusing to users not familiar with the game, which added to the fun of it.
  • Introducing Multireddits
  • new reddit sidebar
Image: RedditAfter two months of beta testing, Reddit released a new feature called "multireddits" this July, allowing users to create specific groups of subreddits for more customized viewing of the site. For more information and instructions, check out our explainer article: "New Multireddits Customize Your Reddit Homepage".
  • Daily Gold Thermometer
  • In response to community interest piqued by a TIL post about the site's revenue issues, Reddit instituted a "daily gold goal thermometer" on the front page. The thermometer updates every 10 minutes and provides more incentive for users to support the site's "gold" feature.
  • Reddit and The Atlantic Partner for Video AMA Series
  • On Nov. 15, Reddit and The Atlantic's video channel announced the creation of a joint project called "Ask Washington Anything," in which Washington, D.C.'s insiders answer your questions. It's just one more example of Reddit branching out and becoming more than just a social network.

    Noteworthy Community Moments

  • The Tragic Death of Aaron Swartz
  • The Reddit community mourned the loss of Swartz, who joined the team in 2006 when his company Infogami merged with Reddit. Following his death, Swartz's life was celebrated throughout the community.
  • The Boston Bombing Witch Hunt:
  • In the search to identify and capture the Boston Bombing suspects, hundreds of redditors took part in an act of "Internet vigilantism," attempting to analyze and isolate those responsible. Several innocent marathon attendees were wrongly accused by users in the /r/FindBostonBombers subreddit, including missing Brown University student Sunil Tripathi, who was later found dead. Reddit quickly responded and apologized for the witch hunt on their official blog.
